Invitation for the Way, 28 July 2019
“Salvation is the process that’s done, that’s secure, that no one can take away from you. Sanctification is the lifelong process of being changed from one degree of glory to the next, growing in Christ, putting away the old, taking on the new.”
Max Lucado, Walking with the Savior
“Everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else, counting it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with Him, no longer counting on being saved by being good enough or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting Christ to save me; for God’s way of making us right with Himself depends on faith – counting on Christ alone.”
Philippians 3:8-9 (TLB)
Kingdom Men, we are on a journey together. At this very moment we are in the process of sanctification; and we are in this realm, but already citizens of God’s kingdom.
Early followers of Christ, as identified in Acts were referred to as followers of “the way”. This had multiple connotations; 1) Luke 14:6 Jesus stated that he is “The way, the truth and the life”, 2 Peter 2:2 refers to Christianity as “the way of truth”, as well as in Isaiah 40:3 “A voice of one calling “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God”
Now lets be absolutely clear on one thing- God doesn’t need us to do a single thing preparing His Way. God will make His presence known, His grace known, His judgement known. We are blessed to participate and use our skills, talents, areas of influence, to be co-creators and make known that God’s kingdom is at hand, and at the same time be changed through sanctification. That is a whole lot going on, so let’s boldly embrace Godly change and move out!!
Over the next three months the Joshua Commission is going to be addressing and then train in “the way” to include:
1) The wisdom and vision needed for “the way” – analogous to constructing roads, wisdom to decide which ones to take, mentoring others along the way, enjoying the journey while focused on our destination.
2) Kingdom men know that we are in, or will be facing storms, and many roads lead to battle. They are part of our lives. Gettysburg is a great example as we will unpack past and current politics, cultural divisions, religion, education, industry/technological impacts and then the roads that literally funneled the men into battle on 3 July 1863. On 26 October, 2019 our roads will converge as we will train on the Gettysburg battlefields (invites to follow)
3) We are invited as part of the great commission to participate in preparing the “way of the Lord” as Kingdom men. The early church literally anticipated the kingdom. Our cultural drift over the centuries, has led us to avoidance of the kingdom. We embrace our role today in “the way”
Today’s training: Dig into your closet and pull out your hiking shoes, get a fresh journal, download YouVersion or a bible app to your mobile device; as we move out together on “the way”. You are also encouraged to invite a friend, uncle, co-worker to participate over the next three months – you need battle buddies as we move out.
