The Way – John 14
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.Jn 14:6
In John 14 Jesus is speaking to His Disciples. These men are the closest followers, yet they too have doubts. Jesus answers their question, prior to them being asked. He tells them to not let their hearts be troubled, nor even afraid. Jesus states that He is going to go before us and everything will be prepared – when Thomas asks: Jn 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
The answer – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jn 16:6
I love the English language as it can convey beautiful imagery, but it can also convey absolutes. There is a major difference between: “a way and the way.” A way denotes more than one option; whereas, THE way speaks of one and only one. Using very simple words, a speaker can broaden or lessen the scope of meanings or even categorically point to one answer or one direction and only specifically one direction.
Throughout our lives we have been guided. Our parents taught us right from wrong, even if sometimes that might have been the wrong direction. Teachers gave us errors from the past in hopes of us learning from past mistakes. Driving from here to there at one time necessitated trusting a paper map or corner gas station attendant. The ancient travelers sought the stars as luminescent guides. Yet even today maps, parents, teachers and the gas station attendant have been proven wrong; we should have turned left instead of right. Even MAPQUEST is incorrect at times. So, what is it we are to do? Who or what do we trust?
Jesus The Son of God, tells us in John; assures his troubled disciples Jesus says:” I am the way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the father but through Me.” Jesus is being very specific – he is saying that He is “the” specific and thus the only way to God and heaven, This is where we must start with Jesus’s promise and absolute truths – there is only one way to the Father and that is through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Study the word of God. Dig deep and pray over what you will read and those things you have already read. Ask God to clarify to you; for you personally. This team is here to assist but, this is a personal relationship between you and God Almighty. No one else can stand before God for you. And no one else can make that decision to follow His Way.
