What is a Human Being To God?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
John 3:16 is arguably the most recognizable verse in all the Bible, but have you ever really taken a moment to feel the gravity of those words? God loved us so much that He gave His son. Now, I don’t know about you but I love my two sons with every fiber of my being and there isn’t a person on this Earth (besides my wife) that I would sacrifice them for. That may seem a little “un-Christlike”, but it’s an honest thought that I think we all share. I love a lot of people, but not enough to give up any of my children.
When I look at my two boys (3 years old and 9 months) I’m just amazed at how much love fills my heart. It’s an intense love that you feel from the top of your head to the tips of your toes and the most overwhelming thing about it is the sense of pride you feel over every little thing they do. Being a dad has brought me so much closer to God because I have experienced the love that a father has for his son and I can’t ever imagine loving someone else enough to give them up. But then again, I’m not God.
God loves US. He loves us with a love that can’t be explained. A love so intense that He would give up the one thing He loves most. He doesn’t just love a couple of the good ones. He doesn’t just love the ones that love Him back. He loves ALL OF US! Yesterday, today and tomorrow.
If you’re anything like me, as you dive into this thought, you naturally begin to ask yourself, “Why does He love us this much? Why does He value us in this way that He would give up His only son?” Besides the fact that we are His creation and He loves His creation, I believe there is a deeper meaning behind the value that God puts on every human life.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
God has put a calling and a purpose on each of our lives and along with that calling, He has also made our worth very clear. We’re worth dying for. That’s our value! With value comes confidence.
When I know my value at my job, I’m that much better at what I do. When I know my value as a husband and a father, I’m that much more eager to lead my family and represent Christ in my home. When I know my value in Christ, I am that much more likely to live a life that is Christlike.
God’s love can be the fuel that propels our lives to the next level. We just need to understand the immense love that He has for each and every human being.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us. You love us with a love that can’t be explained. A love that is greater than anything we’ve ever experienced. My prayer today is that every one that reads this devotional would open their hearts to feel your love and begin to understand their worth. I speak against insecurity and the negative thoughts that fill our minds. You have already assigned a value to our lives and nothing we say or do will change that. And once we understand our value, I pray that we, as Kingdom Men, would find that confidence that can only come from knowing we are a child of the King.
In Jesus name… Amen.
