Promises of God

via TJC

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9

The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as He promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in obedience to Him” Dueteronomy 28:9

“But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” Matthew 6:33

What is a promise? A promise is a declaration or a covenant- that one will do exactly what they say, or something will happen just as they pledged.

The Bible is full of promises spoken by God. Promises of protection, well-being, increase and His love. However, we like generations before us, live in a world where our words are too often twisted. Promises are too frequently made to lull the heart and seduce the soul. We learn quickly that others’ promises often mean nothing. We even encourage children to learn quickly and judge someone by their actions, and not their words.  The problem is  “Promises are only as strong as the person who gives them …” ― Stephen Richards

There is no one stronger than our God.There is no one wiser than our God. God has no reason to twist His words. God is Truth. When God makes a promise, He will do exactly what he says. We can judge God’s words and actions for they are not separable – He does what He says He will do – every time.

Think about what that really means for you personally. We tend to gloss over this – because we have learned not to trust, to judge actions, and not have confidence in anyone to include our selves. Imagine the freedom, imagine the clarity, imagine the joy – realizing that God’s promises are true and are meant for you.

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31  God promises people that are broken, discouraged and running weary (sounds like our business m), to trust in Him and He will renew their strength and hearts. When we wait on God, He promises to show up and renew us.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11  God sees His people even in captivity and promises to prosper them. He gives them plans for hope, love and peace. God loves us and this promise shows that God is constantly pursuing us. God has great plans for us, His future is beyond anything we can imagine.

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” 2 Corinthians 1:20  Paul reminds us that the promises of God are rock solid. If God says something, it will come to pass. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and believe him at his Word. God isn’t a man – his promises are guaranteed.

“The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.” Revelation 3:5.   Jesus promises us that our names will be in the book of life. Once  written, it is sealed with His promise forever. Our salvation, our eternity is guaranteed, as Jesus will confess our name before God himself.

Brothers there is no better news, for there is no better promise. Our response is simple – Trust the one who made these promises, and trust His promises for you.
