Being a Man of the Word

We want to thank Lonnie Berger, and the staff of Every Man a Warrior.  The majority of TJC authors have studied through their curriculum. This weeks DBOs are inspired by the first book “walking with God”.

TJC is committed to growing disciples.  Following regional training events, we strive for  those local men to band together,  a cohort, and study through EMAW as the next step

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

Many folks who do not know me find it difficult to comprehend my sense of humor.

That’s understandable. Much of it is predicated on shock value and is quite often tacky and unrefined. That’s on a good day.  At times, I just cannot resist the temptation to “be me”.

E.g. Some (well-intended, I’m sure) folks at church think it is important for everyone to have a “Life Verse”. Unfailingly, their standby conversational “ice-breaker” will be to ask what that verse is. Now, the Word has some breathtaking and inspirational passages in it, and one is tempted to spew one of them from memory (always impressive). Growing up as a Bible-drilling Baptist, it would be relatively easy for me to cut loose with some real beauties. But, occasionally, I just couldn’t resist: “Yes Ma’am, mine has always been Psalm 137, verse 9.” Very few humans know that one from memory:

“Blessed will be one who seizes and dashes your children against the rock.”

Without exception, this always prompted a discussion on context. It would cause that person to look for reasons to better know what message was actually being conveyed to the reader in those frightful words. God has actually used that scripture in a peculiar and ironic way through the years.

The truth is stories like that one are at the heart of the Wingman Project. Learning and memorizing the Word of God in its proper context will transform lives. The key to more deeply understanding the scripture is to “flesh it out” with effective memorization, meditation, and (in this case) the help of a brother to walk through it with you.

Kingdom Man, are you ready to take your relationship with God to the next level? The Wingman Project is gaining momentum. It is designed for those who are interested in more than just skimming the surface of God’s wonderful instruction manual.

All across the country, true discipleship will become a reality for those willing to put in the time and effort to better know Jesus by meditating on His truth in scripture. By intentionally placing men together on the Ancient Path, we will carve God’s Word into our minds and enter into the joy of a much deeper relationship with Christ. Get Ready!

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Heb4.12

Daily Battle Order:

Accept this challenge from our creed: “I will train my mind and body for the battles to come. I will discipline my heart, eyes and tongue to be steadfast and faithful to the calling on my life.” Apply this to your (and your brothers) commitment of faithfulness to the Word as we move forward.

Tomorrow, see how Being a Man of the Word leads to A Changed Life!
