So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above.” Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”  John 19:9-11

Render, therefore, unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God, the things that are God’s. Romans 12:17

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2

Jesus Christ and the Apostles left us with clear guidance. Recent years have left Americans with strong disagreements, especially regarding government. Strong disagreements turn out to be strong brew and we get drunk, forgetful, angry.

Our government was built upon the idea of gridlock and the idea that there should be disagreement. The forefathers called this “checks and balances”. It may be the case that this era is a puberty of sorts for our young country and this “great experiment” will cause iron to sharpen iron. Have faith.

However, our Faith is clear. God comes first: before Country. All of this world is the domain of this “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), this “enemy”(Matthew 13:39), this murderer! (John 8:44). Countries are subject to warring among powers or principalities. (Daniel 10:13-14). Satan has his own government (Matthew 12:26).

But here’s the thing:  “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

…And that’s our test. Are you going to believe that? Really believe that? If so then…
