Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
Ok, sci-fi nerd alert. This is the quote that pops into my head when I hear the term “high ground”. Whether you are a fan of the movie or not this is a great scene of imminent victory. It’s a great visual for our position against our spiritual enemy because of our status as righteous children of God. Our enemy still thinks he can win, but we know better.
On the second day of the Battle of Chickamauga, the Confederates had broken through and routed the right third of the Union army. Union leader Rosecrans had fled the field. Maj Gen Thomas rallied the remaining Union troops to high ground on Snodgrass Hill, earning the nickname the “Rock of Chickamauga”. From that high ground, the Union held off repeated Confederate assaults, eventually retreating in order to Chattanooga that evening.
As Kingdom men we always have access to the high ground. It’s part of the free gift we were given because Jesus took the high ground of the cross. Even though victory is assured the battle still rages on around us. Our enemy hasn’t accepted his loss and is still firing bullets in our direction.
Our enemy continues to try to get us to buy into his lies by getting us to focus on what he is doing – earthly things – and pull our attention away from our superior position – things above. Don’t let him do it. Accept the gift of high ground. Have confidence in your position on the high ground.
A great benefit of the high ground is a clear view of the battlefield below. As Kingdom Men we get most of that view through time alone with God, in His word, in worship, in prayer…The enemy cannot stand against us when we do this.
Next month on the Chickamauga battlefield we will stand on literal high ground and dig deeper into the victory we can claim as Kingdom Men from our spiritual high ground. The Joshua Commission invites you to join us Friday- Sunday, April 9-11 2021.
Daily Battle Order: Today take a moment and consider this idea of spiritual high ground. Do you believe you have it or is the enemy distracting you? Say to yourself, right now and out loud, “It’s over Satan, I have the high ground. “. Remind yourself of the victory Christ already won for you on the cross like this every time you are tempted to believe you might still lose the battle.
