“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places”. Eph. 6:12
MEDIA… that word entails so much these days. Today, let’s focus on the part of media that is of the most concern to the man of God, the Kingdom Man: How do we effectively battle the enemy on this most formidable of battlefields?
MEDIA influences almost every aspect of our lives, because we allow it to. “How?” you say? Average American total media intake for 2020 was 7 hrs., 50 mins. per day… Yeah, I know. Close your mouth. You’re looking at our subject matter as I write it. We really do spend that much time on MEDIA. What goes into our minds affects not only our thoughts and actions, but it actually changes our very souls and erodes our connection to God. “Mainstream MEDIA” is a steady stream of useless, unholy, oftentimes demonic garbage. There are kids shows on TV today that would have been banned on adult programming just a few years back.
As a believer you should be wary of the insidious nature of secular media. Yet, there remains this most salient of truths: There is something out there about which you will form an opinion this very day that is partially or wholly due to what you’ve heard in the MEDIA. Be it social, TV, newspaper, etc. it’s inevitable and unavoidable.
So what of perseverance and victory? What does it look like for a repentant, earnest man of God when he is bombarded with information from today’s agenda-driven behemoth known as “the MEDIA”?
It appears that victory in a media-obsessed society, at least for the Kingdom Man, lies in our ability to submit to God’s perfect will. So going to the neutral corner and “sitting it out” is not an option. However, careful consideration of the things of God and not the things of this world… before making up one’s mind and opening one’s mouth… is essential.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me-practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” – St. Paul’s words to the believers at Philippi.
At the same time we must have the guts to call out evil where it lives and to take up our weapons against the resulting onslaught.
Daily Battle Order:
We must first realize the source of the media’s power (as described in the intro) and engage them with a superior power. Remember, this battlefield is not in the physical realm. This is a spiritual battle, so we arm ourselves with prayer, preparation, and the armor of God. What are the weapons at our disposal? They are truth, righteousness, the Gospel, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. These are all gifts FROM God and OF God (not from us, not of us). We must boldly and unashamedly proclaim this truth in love and speak that truth directly in the face of the enemy. This is war! We are fighting for the souls of men and their families. Do your part as a Kingdom Man today!
