Do your Job Buttercup

via TJC

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Want to know your purpose ?  God made you to work; to create and cultivate.

What job and where ? Right where God has you planted now. Sure keep an eye out for new opportunities to grow, but do your job well here and now.

Last week we talked about relationships but one of the biggest areas for building relationships, where you spend the most waking time, is your job. Start thinking about your job as the mission area assigned to you - to influence others to Christ. Don’t give me that “I can’t talk about religion at work” excuse - you are the bible others read every day.

Looking back on my military career, a highlight remains from when my combat unit went to war. No one wants to go to war, but when it happens, you have trained and want to be in the fray with your teammates - it’s our job.

My motto shared across the unit was “Pride, Trust, Fun and Family”.  We wanted an atmosphere where everyone was proud of their own work, proud of their work team, and proud of our unit. We trusted one another up and down the line, on a daily basis and especially when crap hit the fan. When you’re proud of what you do, proud of your teammates and trust one another even the most menial tasks, and even in the chaos of combat can be enjoyed. We enjoyed our work and had fun on a daily basis. We trained hard to perform well together. We spent more time with each other, than anyone else, especially during deployments; we had a bond as family. We went to work as brothers and sisters, as a “work” family.

Daily Battle Order

Start assigning chores and working together more diligently in your own home. Even a two year old can take dishes to the sink, and can fold towels. Share your work experiences. And spend time with your children as they work- it’s called HomeWork for a reason. Make them feel proud of working together, Trust them to carry dishes and clean up. Make it a game and have fun with them as they spill water on the floor; they can clean it up.

This week we will be unpacking our work roles as leader, follower, handling confrontations. Please share with us your thoughts and areas of your work.
