I WASN’T LOST

via TJC

And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued to be subject to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. ~ Luke 2:51

We have probably heard the story about Jesus staying behind in Jerusalem at 12 years old all by Himself. In Luke 2:41ff we have that story complete with the anguished parents, their laborious search for their "lost" child and then the reunification.

Let me just say - if that had been me, I would not have been able to sit down for a month, lol. But Jesus basically said, "I wasn't lost." Actually He said, "'Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?'"

It's important to note that He wasn't being disrespectful or being a smart mouth. No, just the opposite. He had been teaching and bewildering the priests in the temple.

So, how does this story tie in with Advent? I believe this passage began to show Jesus coming into His own. He was understanding His mission from the Father. He had earthly parents to obey and verse 51 shows that "He continued to be subject to them." He probably never ran off by Himself without telling them again.

So, are you coming into your own? Do you understand your mission from the Father? If you are a believer, you have a mission. Spend some time in "the temple" asking the Father for clearer orders if you are confused. He never wants you to have to wonder what your mission is. Go to Him today and ask.

Daily Battle Order:

Discuss this story about Jesus with your family. Ask them what they think was going through Joseph and Mary's minds when they were searching for Jesus. Then ask what they thought after they found Him. Ask them if they are searching for Jesus. If they are, He is right where He always said He would be.
