“Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek
righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger.”
Zephaniah 2:3 NIV
Seek righteousness, seek humility and perhaps the Lord will shelter you from his wrath.
It just doesn’t get any clearer or simpler than that. God wants us to pour ourselves into His word. He wants us to read and listen to explanations of His messages in the pursuit of righteousness. He doesn’t expect perfection, but he doesn’t want us to sit on the fences either, hoping we’ll slide into his grace when the day comes.
I’ve spent years declaring my faith to others, but with no attempt to pursue anything resembling humility or righteousness. I lived and worked from day to day with little thought to seeking anything more wealth and what others thought of me, and what I thought of myself.
Even today, as I think I’ve become more humble, I realize humility isn’t something you achieve, it’s something that you continue to develop, when you are committed to seeking Him. In truth, it seems that I may have discovered the true gift of humility in my efforts to seek righteousness. It’s as if one comes with the other. Humility allows you to put others before self and lightens the burden of simply satisfying “me”.
God WANTS you to seek Him. God COMMANDS you to seek Him. God wants to shelter you from His coming wrath. But it’s up to you.
Daily Battle Order:
Don’t just go through the motions. Don’t sit back and expect God to be happy with minimal effort. Pray for, and seek out ways to find righteousness daily and discover the gifts God has instore for you.
