“Take care brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today”, that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.” Hebrews 3:12-14
This week we are focusing on being a Resistance Warrior for Christ. To be such a Warrior, we first defined what resistance is. Today, we focus on defining what or whom we are resisting.
Ask yourself this question: Against what or whom are you resisting? In your country, state, city, county. In your relationships with others. In your integrity and morals. In your relationship with God. In your work. In your home.
Then ask yourself what God’s Word has to say about resisting.
Are you resisting authorities?
Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Romans 13:2
Resistance against God-appointed authorities leads to judgment. Running from the law, not paying taxes that are owed (“render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s” Matthew 22:21), and things like not obeying orders or mandates (as controversial as this may be in the advent of COVID-19) leads to judgment.
Are you resisting the one who is evil?
But I say to you, do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matthew 5:39
As difficult as it is to do, turning the other cheek to him who is evil against you is Biblical. We may not understand it, but God does, and that’s why He said it in His Word. Sometimes, in hindsight, we see that resistance against him who is evil against you leads to more conflict and chaos instead of less.
Are you resisting satan?
Resistance against satan requires submitting yourself to God. He is faithful, and he will provide the way of escape. “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
Are you resisting the Holy Spirit?
You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Acts 7:51
Resistance against the Holy Spirit is resisting God and resisting Jesus Christ. Being stiff-necked with an uncircumcised heart and ears is being unyielding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Resisting the Holy Spirit is missing out on a relationship with the One Who loves you the most.
Daily Battle Order:
Kingdom Men, the facts are that you are faced with opportunities to resist each and every moment of every day. Resisting God appointed authorities and the Holy Spirit leads to judgment and missed relationships. Resisting the one who is evil to you by turning the other cheek leads to less conflict. Submitting yourself to God and resisting satan leads to escape, freedom, and victory!
Tomorrow, we will focus on tools of resistance, principally the Word of God.
