Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” ~Matthew 28:16-20
This was a great week of looking into Jesus’ authority. We spoke about the Authority of Jesus in each of our lives and what it means. We examined Jesus’ roles as Creator and Sustainer, while also digging into His Control of Nature, His Control over the Supernatural and His Incarnate Authority. Today, we close out with how “We will Reign with Him”.
“Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure,we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” 2 Timothy 2:11-13
We may not see ourselves as Kings who rule over creation, but God made us to rule in His glory. (see Gen 1:26-31). Because of Adam and the Fall, we forfeited the ability to fulfill this vocation. Thankfully, by God’s grace, He sent Jesus to die on the cross so that we may be redeemed and reunited with Him. Our redemption, through Jesus’ sacrifice, provides us with the opportunity to realize salvation and step back into the role God intended for us. We are now able once more to achieve our purpose as righteous rulers of the world in His name (Rom.5:12-21).
I have to say that reigning with Him is not easy. We are all broken. We all endure some form of anguish, heartache, loss, depression, loneliness, despair, disease, etc. But only through Him and with Him, can we reign over these things. We can overcome these obstacles with Him and the people He has placed in our lives. Upon Jesus’ ascension to Heaven, He let us know that we would not be abandoned; there is a Helper for us on this earth. This Helper is the communicator between Him and us. This Helper also brings us closer to those who are fighting with us. I have started to notice God placing people in my life to help me grow, to help them grow, or usually a combination of both. In return, they are helping me to want Him more.
Recently, a friend who I have not talked to for a long time called me up and said that he accepted God back into his life. He has been dealing with a great deal of anguish for the past few months. He said for the first time that he noticed God has been working in his life. I honored him for his commitment and honesty in his journey. He said he fought the feeling for so long, but eventually surrendered it. He said it was the best decision he ever made. He also commented how refreshing it was to speak with someone about his journey that would not judge him about his walk with God and who could understand what he has been through.
We cannot reign in his Kingdom if we are not willing to shed away our old skin. Christ did not give us another chance to reign with Him for no reason. He wanted us to achieve our purpose as righteous rulers of this world in His name. Not my name or my family’s name. It was so that we can rule in HIS name.
This next series will help to figure out how we can build His Kingdom by “Going to make Disciples”. Check your friends at the door because we are about to see who is helping you grow and who you are helping grow in His Kingdom.
Daily Battle Order:
Take a look in your lives today and see if you are in sync with his will to reign on this earth. Are you a part of Christ’s plan or your own? Is Jesus the true authority in your life or are you trying to control it? Think about these things and share it with a close friend. We need to have the right people around us to help us grow in His Kingdom. If you do not have that person in your life pray and ask for Him to send someone to help guide you there.
Take time out and answer those questions. Post them up on our Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/joshuacommission) and our Website (“joshuacommission.org). We all have purpose on this earth. What is yours?
