The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
“Going on a pilgrimage is my holy weapon. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My holy weapon is my best friend.”
Today we talk about refreshing and aligning your very soul and your communications with Our Commander, through pilgrimage
What is that long held dream journey, that pilgrimage, you have harbored? I’d say you dreamed of, but don’t take too much credit- that thought isn’t of you, but from God.
Acts 17:24 “ The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth: does not live in temples made by man”
Throughout the bible and our spiritual ancestry, pilgrims (person on a pilgrimage) have undertaken journeys to: deepen their connection with God, connect with other believers as pilgrims, journey to holy locations to learn more about our faith history. And for many to see sites where reported miracles have occurred to seek healing or blessings.
My sister in law, for years kept diving deeper into a longing, while raising six children to walk the “Camino de Santiago” or the way of St James. This is a 500 mile long journey across northwest Spain, that leads to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and is cherished over the centuries as the traditional walk to where Saint James was reported to be buried after being beheaded. I can never do justice to the journey Hollee enjoyed alone, but you can hear her sharing at https://www.buzzsprout.com/1198439 I love her words: “These stories are my response to walking the Camino de Santiago; it is a story, inspired by my real experiences and infused occasionally with a layer of holy imagination. I know it is worthwhile because I am not just hoping to tell my own story. I am hoping to tell more of the whole story, glimpse more of the whole truth. So, welcome pilgrim! Because I’m a firm believer that whether or not you have already walked or are interested in walking the Camino de Santiago, or a pilgrimage at all, guess what? …YOU’RE ALREADY ON ONE!”
As Kingdom Men we may not have the time, (or think we don’t) to travel across Spain. For some that pilgrim dream maybe to walk the length of the Appalachian Trail (maybe breaking the 2,190 miles up into manageable chunks over a decade or more), for others it maybe to travel to Jerusalem and walk the path to Calvary. It may be this weekend and responding to a call from God and walk the trail from Valley Forge into Philadelphia. In all these cases it’s us hearing God’s invitation and His promises and obediently journeying and seeking intimacy with God.
Mine has been following God’s invitation into wooded trails: leaving my watch and (God forbid ear buds and an I-phone), and following the curves into deeper woods, craving the moments when I literally feel His presence; laughing and pointing out the wonders I miss when I’m caught up in my own thoughts.
Daily Battle Order: We are already on a journey; what holier weapon is there than our souls, intentionally seeking and spending time with God in his creation; following His lead obediently? Where are you headed pilgrim ?
